Walking for well-being

I felt changed…being together like this made me feel safe, nurtured and content

Walking for well-being

We are delighted to be publishing Rooted this week – a new walk for well-being co-created with and for the Addenbrooke’s community.

Earlier this year artist Filipa Pereira Stubbs met with a group of colleagues from the Hospital and city (staff, volunteers, and scientists) to walk out to Nine Wells Nature Reserve, an extraordinary nearby space for nature, and then share creative time together. We wanted to explore how spending time in local nature can feel and then think about how to share this with others. This new resource is the result. It is free for everyone to read online or download.

Printed copies will be shared on Wednesday 3 July with staff at Addenbrooke’s as part of The CUH Arts Festival, and with a group joining us on Friday to walk the route together. This week-long staff-focused celebration highlights the array of work CUH Arts delivers through pop-up workshops, tours and other happenings around the CUH campus, offering a creative and restorative break for staff and patients.

Rooted is dedicated to our dear friend and colleague Rosie Tween (1956 – 2024), a clinical nurse specialist at the Hospital who loved spending time companionably in nature.

Two new hangings for our Fantastical Forest have also been created as part of this work and these will be displayed on Friday as we gather to start our walk, and then added to the full collection. Details of when and where to see the Forest are here.

Rooted has been produced as part of the River Cam CAN project with Cambridge City Council and Cambridge Past Present and Future.
